Presentation synopsis:
The Geographic Information System (GIS) has a unique role
in business continuity. It can model infrastructure, help provide first
responders with critical time saving information, and offer a holistic view
of threats in relation to the environment they present themselves in. At
Devon, the Business Continuity Program (BCP) has integrated traditional
Devon GIS data (e.g. aerial photography, pipelines, well locations, lease
locations) with critical infrastructure information (e.g. EMS locations,
roads) and I&W data to produce World Watch. Facilities management,
employee management, incident mapping, weather monitoring, office relocation,
evacuation, and threat assessments are some of the domains the BCP will
use GIS capabilities for. Swan Island Networks have evolved the World Watch
concept into a tool (TIES) widely used by government agencies and companies
to monitor local situational awareness to facilities. TIES incorporates
real time data feeds on 911 calls, severe weather, traffic, natural disaster,
disease outbreaks and similar I&W information into specific portals
tied to company locations. In addition, TIES allows group of companies or
government agencies to create secure portals to share information directly
with each other.
