Mark Haimowitz

Mark Haimowitz is the Director of Business Continuity Planning for the Disney ABC Television Group.  His responsibilities include developing, testing and maintaining business continuity plans for ABC offices in New York and Burbank, CA.  Mark is one of a handful of US practitioners certified as a Fellow of the Business Continuity Institute (FBCI) and also certified as a CBCP from the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII).   For almost 25 years, he has been a leader in the implementation of crisis management, business continuation management and disaster recovery programs.  He has been a speaker at numerous conferences and has published various articles related to the field of business continuation management.  Mark has served on several industry roundtables and planning committees sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security, FEMA, the National Emergency Management Associations (NEMA), New York State Emergency Management Office, the New Jersey State Office of Emergency Management, the City of New York Office of Emergency Management and the City of Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management.  His previous work experience includes Comcast, Avaya, Merrill Lynch and Chase Manhattan Bank.  Over the course of his career, Mark has had considerable experience in preparing and recovering from numerous hurricanes including Andrew, Hugo and Katrina.

 

 

Shelley Lee Johnson

Shelley Lee Johnson is a member of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) serving as a federal responder with FEMA’s Disaster Workforce (deployable anywhere in the US, its territories or protectorates) and also as a Staff Officer with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Sector LI Sound (celebrating their 70th Anniversary as America’s Volunteer Guardians).  Locally, Shelley serves as a volunteer under the direction of Suffolk County, NY, OEM/Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services in the position of Team Leader with the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), a component of Citizen Corps.  Shelley has experience working within the Incident Command System (ICS) and using her Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Planning (HSEEP) training. She is a certified Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP) Trainer with numerous certifications in WMD-CBRNE.

 

The International Center for Enterprise Preparedness (InterCEP) is a “think tank” at New York University within the Center for Catastrophe Preparedness and Response (CCPR).  During 2005-2006 Shelley was the Training Coordinator at InterCEP during a DHS endorsed outreach project offering a series of national workshops about the National Preparedness Standard for Business Continuity and Emergency Management (NFPA1600). Project goals included bringing public-private sector methodologies together for improved response capabilities and promoting “buy-in” for contingency planning funding by CEO level decision makers on the private sector side. Shelley is a Board Member of the Association of Contingency Planners (ACP), NYC Metro Chapter, and is a member of the Contingency Planning Exchange (CPE). Shelley is well versed in the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) professional practices for Business Continuity.  Earlier career experience included over 20 years marketing and field sales management within the grocery, bulk petroleum and financial services private industry segments.

 

Shelley is an alumni member of the National Ski Patrol experienced in alpine search and rescue/ winter outdoor emergency care.  She has been a professional scuba diver for over 15 years serving as Dive Master and crew on technical wreck diving charter boats off NY-NJ with over 1000 dives to depths up to 305 fsw.

 

Tom Serio

Tom Serio has over 25 years of experience in business and Information Technology, with a focus on disaster recovery preparedness, business continuity planning and crisis management throughout his career.  Currently with Verizon Wireless, Serio’s focus is to expand the company’s outreach program, working with emergency responders on federal, state and local levels, and supporting disaster awareness programs for businesses as they relate to critical communications.  Additionally, he will participate as part of the Verizon Wireless Crisis Response Team in community response efforts post events.

 

Most recently, Serio was the Director of Business Continuity Management for Office Depot, Inc. for five years.  He was responsible for management of domestic and international corporate and distribution center recovery plans.  Serio’s program also included preparedness information and expos for associates, planning support for small/medium sized businesses and media outreach on awareness to the general public.  He coordinated recovery efforts for Office Depot from events such as Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Wilma and Ike, as well as other local impacts.
