Welcome to The Greater Tampa Bay Association of Contingency Planners
Our meetings are generally held on the last Wednesday of every month from 11:30am to 1:00pm (locations vary).
February 2010 Newsletter
2010 is off to a dramatic start for contingency planners and disaster recovery professionals all over the world. The massive earthquake in Haiti and the incredible record-breaking blizzards here in the US continue to show the need to develop plans to prepare for a wide variety of unexpected situations (supply chain disruptions, corporate travel, breakdowns in communication systems, and disaster relief and economic redevelopment).
This month's guest speaker is a District Manager for Publix Super Markets, and he will share his thoughts about the lessons that Publix has learned to ensure they are meeting the needs of their communities in the event of a disaster.
New Meeting Fees Effective this Month
Due to increasing costs to secure meeting space and provide luncheons for our attendees, the Greater Tampa Bay ACP Board of Directors has unanimously approved instituting a monthly meeting fee effective February 1st, 2010.
Effective immediately, all active, paid-in-full members of ACP International, regardless of your chapter affiliation, will be assessed a $10 (ten dollar) meeting fee for every GTB Chapter meeting that they pre-register. This fee is to be paid at time of registration for the meeting.
We will now ask that you RSVP for the meetings by clicking the link following the meeting information below which will take you to a registration page where you can pre-pay for the session. This provides us with an exact headcount for the meetings, and collects the meeting fees in advance. We will not be collecting meeting fees at the door, so please use this new registration system.
If you are new to ACP, we offer that you attend one meeting as our guest, for which the meeting fee will be waived. This will give you the opportunity to determine if ACP is right for you. By the second meeting, you are considered a repeat visitor.
If you’re a repeat visitor, meaning that you have attended prior GTB chapter meetings but have yet joined the ACP, or if you were a member of ACP and your membership has lapsed, you’ll be required to remit a $20 (twenty dollar) meeting fee when you register for the meeting. The meeting fee includes the cost of your lunch.
Note: Repeat visitors or inactive members who join / renew prior to the close of the Chapter meeting, submit the appropriate paperwork and payment of their dues via a check or credit card will have their cover charge applied to the cost of annual membership!
Thank you for your cooperation as we work through this new system. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Steve Elliot

This Month's Meeting Topic: "Publix Super Markets Discusses Lessons Learned and Levels of Preparedness"
DATE & TIME: Wednesday, February 24th, 11:30AM - 1:00PM
LOCATION: Lee Roy Selmon’s Restaurant, 4302 W Boy Scout Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33607. (813) 871-3287. http://www.leeroyselmons.com/
MEETING DESCRIPTION:
Publix Super Markets is the largest and fastest-growing employee-owned supermarket chain in the United States. The Lakeland-based food retailer has learned many lessons from past disasters, and made a number of adjustments to their facilities, training systems, and levels of preparation.
Our speaker this month is Bob Wabbersen who is a District Manager for Publix Super Markets in the St. Petersburg area. He has been with Publix for 22 years and has worked in or in conjunction with over 50 locations up and down the west coast of Florida. Bob has played an active role in the recovery of their locations during the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons. Those events had a major impact on how Publix chooses to do business today.
Bob will be sharing a power point presentation that demonstrates the levels of preparation at Publix to ensure they are prepared in the event of an oncoming event. He will also share their plans for during and after a storm.
Please join us for this fascinating look into the Retail Contingency Planning of Publix with Bob Wabbersen.

It has grown into a Fortune 500 company with more than 1,000 stores and is one of the fastest growing employee-owned companies in the United States. Publix employee count is over 140,000 strong. LEE ROY SELMON'S RESTAURANT:
At the request of our membership, we are holding half of our meetings in Hillsborough County this year, and Lee Roy Selmon's Restaurant near the International Plaza Mall is our venue of choice. Selmon’s is located north of I-275 and just to the east of West Shore Boulevard. You’ll find the restaurant on the south side of Boy Scout Boulevard in between West Shore Boulevard and Dale Mabry Highway.
